Short Tour Description

This Full day tour is designed for those who want to discover the beauties of The Vatican Museums, the unmissable Sitine Chapel and the Colosseum.

The tour is divided in two parts, the first is the visit to the Vatican Museum where you will walk thought the Gallery of Candelabra, Tapestries and Maps to the outstanding Raphael’s Rooms once part of the papal apartments.

The tour will continue with the visit of the amazing Sistine Chapel, entirely covered with the most famous Michelangelo’s frescoes, the ceiling and The Last Judgement, learning about michelangelo’s life, stories and painting techniques.

At last but not least the St. Peter’s basilica, the greatest of all churches of Christendom and one of the holiest Catholic shrines, be amazed in front of the Michelangelo’s masterpiece “The Pieta”, touch the foot of St.Peter’s statue to get his blessing, admire the magnificent main altar, “the baldaquin”, designed by the most famous baroque artist Giovan Lorenzo Bernini.

After a lunch break you will be ready to the second part of the tour where you will be absorbed in Ancient Rome Monuments and sites.

Starting with a deep visit of the Unique Colosseum, the biggest arena of ancient Rome, discovering the gladiators stories and lives and how the roman emperors use the spectacles in the Amphitheater to show their power and authority.

But we can’t let you go without show you an amazing overview on The Roman Forum where the roman empire was born.

The order of starting and ending points can switch according to the season or to special events.

COLOSSEUM

Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill or parts of the venues could be subject to last-minute closures due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Please note that for safety reasons the Colosseum can accommodate up to 3.000 people at once.
This could lead to delays in access to the site, even for pre-booked visitors.
For security reasons all visitors and their luggage shall be screened. To facilitate the security checks please insert any object (including mobile phone) in the bag/backpack or in the tray to be included in the X-ray.
It is confirmed the prohibition of bringing backpack camping, bulky bags and luggage / trolley, can be introduced medium and small size backpacks to shoulder, which must be checked, as any other bag, with metal detectors, opened and visually inspected by the Urbe Security Institute, responsible for the entrance inspection.

Dress Code

Entry to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors.
Low cut or sleeveless clothing, shorts, short skirts and hats are not allowed.

Security checks by metal detector

For security reasons all visitors and their luggage shall be screened. To facilitate and speed up security checks by metal detector, visitors are advised to remove inadmissible items from their hand baggage beforehand, and to inform staff in advance.

Luggage, bags and rucksacks

Before entering the exhibition spaces, visitors are required to leave in the cloakroom all luggage, suitcases, rucksacks, packages and containers not considered suitable by staff on account of their size or nature.
Visitors who continue their tour in the Vatican Basilica are reminded not to leave their baggage in the Vatican Museums.
The cloakroom service is free of charge.
Large umbrellas, sticks, tripods and stands for photography, video cameras, stainless steel water bottle, banners and signs of any type must all be left in the cloakroom.
Even if you get through security, you will be turned away by the attendants at the entrance door.

Photos and Video

Photos an Video without flash are allowed everywhere at the Vatican, including inside St. Peter’s Basilica.
But inside the Sistine Chapel, photos are not allowed at all.
Tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed anywhere in the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Remember

When you leave the Sistine Chapel to reach St. Peter’s Basilica you exit the Vatican Museums and it isn’t possible to return to the Vatican Museums. If you want more time inside the Vatican Museums you must forgo the guided tour of the basilica.
